Transforming Healthcare: Thinslices Partners with Leafwell

In 2024, we formed a strategic partnership with Leafwell, one of the largest telemedicine providers in the U.S. specializing in medical cannabis consultations. The collaboration began with advisory support focused on DevOps, site reliability, scaling, and performance. As the partnership deepened, our founder, Ilie Ghiciuc, joined Leafwell's board, contributing to their organizational development and leadership strategy.

With the cannabis industry gaining visibility and momentum, this partnership has been extended to include the redesign and update of Leafwell's platform, moving from an older Ruby monolith to a state-of-the-art serverless architecture. 

As Leafwell prepares for its next growth phase, expanding its services beyond telemedicine, this collaboration is key to positioning the company to meet evolving market demands with greater efficiency and innovation.

Project Scope and Technological Vision

Our collaboration centers on reengineering their existing Ruby monolith platform, transitioning to a serverless architecture with microservices, and implementing a new and modern customer experience built as a React single-page application. This shift is crucial for scaling operations and enhancing performance. 

Unlike a monolithic architecture, where all components are interconnected, a serverless architecture with microservices allows each function to operate independently, leading to greater flexibility, scalability, and resilience. This means easier updates, better resource management, and faster time-to-market for modern applications.

The initial phase involves understanding how Leafwell's product operates and how the original architecture was set up. This foundation is critical for a successful transition.

Our team of professional software architects will design the new architecture by leveraging our extensive experience in serverless technology, microservices, and React. This process involves defining the system’s structure, breaking the application into separate services, and ensuring seamless integration. The goal is to create a scalable, robust, user-friendly platform that meets Leafwell’s evolving needs.
